We are watching an exciting shift, the humble bean is having quite the glow-up.

Hodmedod deserves a huge amount of credit for that.

I was really pleased to see their products in article photo, but also disappointed that there was no recognition of everything they have done and continue to do to build interest in British-grown pulses and beans.

Yes, there are now some brilliant organisations and businesses championing the cause. Bold Bean Co, The Food Foundation and Veg Power, to name a few.

But Josiah and Nick, you were the pioneers. And you’re still going strong.

What I admire most about Hodmedod isn’t just what they sell. It’s what they’ve helped change. Their humility means it’s always been about something way bigger than them, the producer, the land and of course, the bean.

They’ve helped create demand, curiosity and a whole new appreciation for crops that have long been forgotten about, in the UK.

I’m always watching Hodmedod to see what I can learn.
