The Public Plate is the organisation behind a new network of public restaurants: places that make eating out more affordable, more sociable and better for people and the planet.
Designed as a social franchising system, The Public Plate enables local entrepreneurs to open and operate public restaurants with the support of shared infrastructure that would otherwise be difficult to build alone. This includes mission-aligned investment, a trusted supply chain built around local producers, shared production capacity through regional food hubs and a proven operating model designed to deliver both commercial success and public value.
The system allows the network to achieve many of the efficiencies associated with large hospitality groups while preserving local ownership, entrepreneurship and community participation.
Our purpose is simple: to make eating out more accessible while creating lasting public value through healthier food environments, stronger local supply chains, good jobs, equitable ownership and resilient local economies.
Years of hands-on hospitality
The Public Plate was founded by Carly Trisk-Grove and is being built with a growing group of collaborators, advisors and supporters who believe everyday eating can play a bigger role in public life.
Carly’s background is in restaurants. She has founded and run three, including Café in the Park, and was a founder member of the Sustainable Restaurant Association. Alongside practical experience, she holds an MSc in Food Policy and is a B Leader with B Corp, bringing together hands-on hospitality, systems thinking and a commitment to business as a force for good.
Together, we’re working to turn the idea of Public Restaurants into a practical, scalable reality for town centres across the UK.
