Public Restaurants: a delivery partner for place, health and regeneration
The Public Plate seeks to work with local authorities, asset owners and operators to unlock the first pilot Public Restaurants: affordable, high-volume dining spaces designed to deliver measurable outcomes across public health, regeneration and local economies.

Our role is to convene the partners, infrastructure and finance required to test the model in real places, allowing local authorities to support delivery against strategic priorities without taking on operational responsibility.

About Us
Public Restaurants offer a practical, place-based response, designed to:
-
Increase footfall and dwell time in town centres
-
Support preventative public health through access to affordable, nutritious food
-
Strengthen the foundational economy and everyday social infrastructure
-
Bring under-used assets back into productive use
Delivered through a commercially operated but purpose-led model, Public Restaurants sit comfortably alongside existing civic infrastructure, while remaining financially sustainable.
We are seeking local authority partners with regeneration ambitions and an appetite to pilot new civic infrastructure.
Local authorities are not expected to operate or fund Public Restaurants. Instead, we are asking for:
-
A senior officer contact to explore fit and feasibility
-
Support in identifying and unlocking suitable sites
-
Strategic alignment across relevant teams (e.g. regeneration, public health, economic development)
-
Willingness to act as a delivery partner in a time-bound pilot
